Most travel insurance will exclude cover if you're travelling to a high risk area or country. In the UK, this is determined by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, which provides travel advice. Sometimes they will advise against all travel to a country or area or only essential travel. Insurers will usually use this information when determining whether a claim is valid from someone who has travelled to a country or area where there exists advice from the FCO.
